Music is a creative field -- and the business of music can be an equally creative pursuit.

One company that's shown that consistently is Round Hill Music, which has proven pretty fearless in its short history by acquiring catalogs and forming partnerships. The latest beneficiary of their out-of-the-box thinking is ZYNC Music, the bi-coastal concern that's been representing artists for synch since 2002.

Round Hill announced yesterday that it has entered into a partnership "to better serve the music supervisor community, offering not only an incredible catalog of music, but also the hottest frontline indie artists."

Headed up by sync/publishing veteran Marisa Baldi (formerly of Universal Music Publishing) who heads up the West Coast operations, and Zync founder Sanne Hagelsten (formerly of Ultra Records) who heads up the East Coast Operations, ZYNC Music has established itself as a leading music licensing and publishing company. It specializes in music synchronization placements in film, advertising, television, trailers, sports, and video games. The company is especially recognized for its work with established and emerging independent artists, including Band of Skulls, The Heavy, Bassnectar, Sofi Tukker, ODESZA, Sleigh Bells, Alabama Shakes, Bones, Lucius, Vulfpeck, and many more.

Under the new arrangement, Zync’s creative team will remain intact and work alongside Round Hill’s sync staff. Baldi and Hagelsten will co-head the combined sync teams with offices in NY, LA, and Nashville. In addition, Round Hill and ZYNC have also announced their launch of a JV publishing business to support and expand Zync’s successful rights representation business, and to also offer funds for developing and signing new publishing deals with emerging artists.

Round Hill's catalog includes music recorded and performed by The Beatles, Eddie Holland, Neil Sedaka, The Rolling Stones, The Offspring, Bruno Mars, Cee Lo Green, Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Bon Jovi, Steve Perry, Louis Armstrong, Tina Turner, Ella Fitzgerald, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, N Sync, Mötley Crüe, Josh Kear, Percy Sledge, and Katy Perry and many others. Some of Round Hill’s current artists, writers and producers include American Authors, Morgan Taylor Reid, Cobi, Jeffery David, Rune Westberg, The London Souls, Gramatik, Civil Twilight, The Griswolds, Lettuce and Odessa. Hit songs it represents include “All of Me”, “She Loves You”, “I Saw Her Standing There”, “Stop! In the Name of Love “, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, “All Of Me,” “Video Killed The Radio Star,” “When a Man Loves a Woman,” “Cherry Pie”, “Collide”, “Land of A Thousand Dances”, “All By Myself” and many more.

The deal points to the music business opportunities that are out there in synch licensing -- firms that work hard, secure artists, songs and placements just may win the opportunity to expand their scope with unexpected partners.
